I spent the morning at the licensing office as part of the process in obtaining a drivers permit. For those who don't know I was robbed over Carnival and no longer have a valid license in my possession. It is allowed to drive on a foreign license for three months. I've been here just over seven.

Since I cannot prove that I have a foreign license and my replacement from Austin will take 45 days and then arrives without a photo, I now have to obtain a local Trinidad & Tobago drivers permit. I went last Friday to the licensing office, obtained a learner's permit (don't laugh) and received a date of April 17th to sit the written. After waiting quite patiently for four hours, I was permitted to speak with the officer on duty for an entire minute. He was kind and moved my date up till today, which is why I'm writing now. I sat the test this morning, no worries. Passed and received a date of March 25 for the driving test. I only had to spend an hour this time to change the date. I'm scheduled to take it at 1:00 pm today (1 1/2 hours). Since my office is only a few blocks away I came here for lunch. I also spent a couple dollars and took a driving lesson to make sure I know all the rules and regulations in this country. My two worrisome areas are the fact that the entire test is administered at under 40km (damn slow) and you must remember to use hand signals for everything.

Went by an uncle's house last night for the farewell to the Aussie cousins. Gavin left on a 9:00 am flight this morning. Kilian really leaves next week. Had a good time and ended up at the local pub, The Pelican Inn, afterward until later than I should have since I had to be up for about 6:30 this morning.

Well, I hope all is well with the world around. Ciao. ::
